Proposed plan for handling vessels during installation and commissioning of three new RMQC's at Main Container Berth

As you are aware, JNPCT is replacing three old RMQC’s (Rail Mounted Quay Cranes) with three new RMQC’s at the Main Container Berth and the installing and commissioning of these will take approximately 30-40 days.

JNPCT has assured the Trade that every effort will be made to expedite the work progress of three new RMQC’s within the shortest time frame. The new cranes are expected to arrive JNPT on or around 22/6/11. SCI is taking every step possible to ensure that its services run as normal as possible and this work will affect only one berth of the total three berths operated by JNPCT.

I-MED SERVICE
Two out of three berths are going to function normally and we expect little or no disruption for the I-Med service, as most of the vessels are below 260 metres length which is permissible as per JNP Port rules during this RMQC’s commissioning period.

As far as I-Med is concerned, it will be business as usual and we continue to seek your support just the way you have done from the commencement of the service.

ISES SERVICE
ISES service, which is a flag ship of SCI services may face minor inconvenience during this period but SCI has already been assured by the Port that four out of seven vessels in this service can berth quite conveniently even during this period . With the new arrival dates for RMQC’s the vessel Mv MSC Catania-v- 109 on the ISES service will also not be affected, as her ETA is Jun/23rd’2011.

SCI is using its good offices to talk to the other terminals viz. NSICT and GTI for berthing few vessels at those terminals during the period,if required.

These brand new cranes are expected to significantly improve the productivity and handling capacity at JNPCT which will reduce congestion and help vessels turn around much faster and will ultimately help in maintaining schedules

We assure you that we will keep you well updated on all developments and our entire Sales and Customer Service staff are there to give you the information as and when you may require.

We request your understanding and continued support during this period and we thank you for the same.
